Residents of Seerapalayam panchayat submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector opposing the merger of a part of their area with the Corporation, claiming the decision was made without public consultation.

Coimbatore: Residents of Seerapalayam panchayat have submitted a petition to Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, opposing the decision to merge a portion of their area with the Coimbatore Corporation.

According to reports, wards 1, 2, and 3 of Seerapalayam panchayat in Madukkarai union are slated for merger with the Corporation. In their petition, the residents claimed that this decision was made without any public consultation or seeking opinions from the affected people.

The petitioners stated that during a Gram Sabha meeting held on October 2, 2024, they had requested a resolution be passed against this merger. They have attached a copy of this resolution to their petition.

The residents emphasized their desire for their area to remain a village panchayat to continue receiving all government scheme benefits. They expressly stated that they do not want their area to be upgraded to Corporation status. Furthermore, they demanded that this issue be directly discussed with the public and that any decision should be based on the residents' wishes.
