Temporary bus bays set in the City paving way for road accidents?

Temporary bus bays set up by the City Traffic Police to regulate free flow of traffic on the city's arterial roads have not achieved its purpose, as these buses shuttle between the bus bays and the regular roads causing confusion to the motorists and at times becomes the cause for accidents too.

'Due to paucity of space, these buses deviate from the bus bays and use the roads which panics the motorists behind the bus. The motorists are unable to judge if the bus would use the bus bay and also lack of proper signage is also reason for such confusions. Over the past week, a couple of accidents occurred at the GN Mills bus bay area, because of the bus bay, the concerned officials should immediately address the issue on priority', said a resident of GN Mills.

Citing the case of GN Mills post bus bay, which went nonoperational within days after it was set up the residents of the area say that due to the large volume of traffic traversing in this stretch frequent accidents took place in GN Mills junction so that the police removed the barricaded bus bays.

In many other areas too the residents alleged that the bus bays created using barricades has become a hindrance to free flow of traffic which also paves way to frequent accidents.

Public also apprised that 'This temporary bus bays could only be a temporary measure, and they are not suitable, where the roads are narrow. The traffic police should realize this and come out with remedies like repairing on - functional signals, introducing one-way traffic and other such measures'.
