Dilapidated Bus Shelter Near Valparai: Public Demands New Structure

Near Valparai in Coimbatore district, a crumbling bus shelter poses risks to passengers. Locals urge authorities to construct a new, safer shelter at Matha Kovil junction in Manikka Estate area.

Coimbatore: Residents near Valparai in Coimbatore district are struggling to use a bus shelter that is on the verge of collapse. The shelter, located at the Matha Kovil junction in the Manikka Estate area of Valparai, was constructed by the municipality. However, it has fallen into a state of disrepair, with damage visible on both its sides and roof.

The deteriorating condition of the shelter has led to its disuse by the public. Its location in a depression makes it particularly difficult for children and the elderly to access. During rainy seasons, passengers are left without any proper place to take shelter while waiting for buses.

Adding to the problem, the shelter, originally built for public use, is being misused by some individuals as an open-air bar during nighttime. This misuse further discourages legitimate users from utilizing the facility.

In light of these issues, on October 1st, local residents put forth a demand to the municipality to construct a new bus shelter at the Matha Kovil junction. They hope that a new, properly built structure will better serve the community's needs and provide a safe waiting area for passengers, especially during inclement weather.

The public's request highlights the importance of maintaining and upgrading public infrastructure to ensure the safety and convenience of local residents. As of now, there has been no official response from the municipal authorities regarding this demand.
