To treat patients with chronic ailments in a holistic manner, doctors at the State-run Sir C.V. Raman General Hospital have started an integrated health unit.
The unit will have practitioners from various systems of medicine treating patients under one roof. It has become the first government general hospital to offer such a service.
Hospital Medical Superintendent John Ebenezer told The Hindu that the facility would help patients suffering from diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, backache and other lifestyle diseases.
“The unit will be run with help from Dr. Shasikanth, who is an MBBS, MD (yoga). We will also have Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy and Acupuncture practitioners,” he said.
“While NIMHANS and Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology also offer integrated treatment, ours will be the first general hospital to take this up,” the doctor added.
The 250-bed hospital gets nearly 300 out-patients every day. Over 50% of them suffer from chronic ailments.
