Demand to Remove Garbage Dumped Near Second Bridge on Mettupalayam-Ooty Road

Social activists demand action to remove accumulated garbage near the second bridge on Mettupalayam-Ooty road, citing health hazards and foul odor affecting the area.

Coimbatore: The Mettupalayam-Ooty road, a crucial route connecting the plains to the popular hill station, is facing a significant environmental challenge. Social activists have raised concerns about the accumulation of garbage near the second bridge on this busy thoroughfare.

Thousands of vehicles ply daily on the Mettupalayam-Ooty road, transporting tourists and locals alike. However, the area near the second bridge has become a dumping ground for waste from nearby hotels and residential areas. The improper disposal and lack of regular cleanup have resulted in mountains of garbage piling up along the roadside.

The unchecked accumulation of waste has led to severe sanitation issues in the area. The garbage heaps emit a foul odor, making it unpleasant for travelers and posing potential health risks to nearby residents. There are growing concerns about the possibility of disease outbreaks if the situation is not addressed promptly.

On September 24, social activists in the region demanded immediate action from the authorities to address this pressing issue. They emphasized the need for a comprehensive waste management plan to prevent further dumping and to clean up the existing garbage piles.

The activists have called for regular garbage collection, installation of proper waste bins, and strict enforcement of anti-littering laws in the area. They also suggested awareness campaigns to educate local businesses and residents about the importance of proper waste disposal.

As the Mettupalayam-Ooty road is a key route for tourism, the activists stressed that maintaining its cleanliness is crucial not only for public health but also for preserving the region's natural beauty and appeal to visitors.

Local authorities are expected to respond to these concerns and implement measures to tackle the garbage problem effectively. The situation highlights the ongoing challenges in waste management in tourist areas and the need for collaborative efforts between the government, local businesses, and residents to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
