Alleging that the State Government headed by Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy has failed to protect the property at Kodanadu estate where former Chief Minister Jayalalitha had lived during her lifetime, Kanakaraj, the legislator from Sulur has said if the Government had extended proper security the daring robbery attempt and murder could have been prevented.
The out-spoken Kanakaraj, who briefed the media after distributing Rs.55,000, his own salary as a relief to the family of Arumuga Gounder, a farmer who had committed suicide under duress said that the present Government has not extended proper security to a place where the leader has lived. “ And so I would hold the Government responsible for such unsavoury incident,” Kanakaraj said. Arumuga Gounder near Senjeri had ended his life under duress when his coconut crops withered as his two borewells have gone dry.
While noting that farmer suicides have become rampant in Tamilnadu due to drought situation and failing crops he said other legislators including Members of Parliament should come forward to give relief to the farmer families.
