Woman Dies from Snake Bite After Pet Cat Brings Snake into Home in Pollachi

In a tragic incident in Pollachi, a 58-year-old woman was fatally bitten by a venomous snake that her pet cat had brought into the house. The incident occurred while she was sleeping.


Coimbatore: A shocking incident in Pollachi, Coimbatore district, has left the community in mourning after a woman died from a snake bite brought about by an unexpected turn of events involving her pet cat.

Shanthi, 58, a resident of Nehru Nagar in Pollachi, was living with her son Santhosh following the death of her husband Ravi a year ago. Shanthi had been raising a kitten as a pet in her home.

The tragedy unfolded when Shanthi's pet cat spotted a venomous snake outside the house premises. In an unfortunate turn of events, the cat caught the snake and brought it inside the house. The snake, finding itself in an unfamiliar environment, bit Shanthi who was asleep at the time.

Awakened by Shanthi's cries, neighbors rushed to her aid and immediately transported her to the Pollachi Government Hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Shanthi succumbed to the snake bite.

The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the neighborhood, with residents lamenting the ironic twist of fate where a beloved pet inadvertently caused its owner's demise.

The Pollachi East Police Station has registered a case and is conducting further investigations into the incident.

This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers that can arise from the interaction between domestic pets and wild animals, even in urban settings.
