Deaths on roads due to stray animals drastically increase

Coimbatore being an industrial city, is always subject to jam packed roads. Stray animals on these roads lead to numerous accidents. This has proven extremely dangerous for not just animals in the city but men as well. Stray animals on roads pose a huge threat as many deaths occur due to application of sudden brakes to prevent running over animals. The number of men dying due to stray animals on the road are much more than that of car accidents.

Dogs, cows, goats and other animals that unknowingly wander on the roads are brutally killed in road accidents. Such accidents mostly occur at night as lorries and trucks ply. These accidents happen not just on the roads but in railway tracks as well. Apart from that, animals are also subject to extremely harsh treatment during their old age. Horses used for riding are disposed on roads when they age, paving way for accidents. This is especially common in tourist places such as Ooty where horses are commonly used entertaining tourist. Earlier, animals were at least operated and sterilized by the corporation, which they have now stopped.

NGO's and various other animal welfare organizations have raised their voice when it comes to other activities where men harm animals. These organizations should also consider bringing this serious concern to the forefront and taking care of these stray animals in order to make the roads safer for not just animals but also humans.
