Coimbatore Junction Tops Salem Division in Passenger Traffic and Revenue Generation

Coimbatore Junction leads Salem Division of Southern Railways in passenger traffic and revenue generation for 2023-24, with 1.02 crore passengers and Rs 345 crore revenue.


Coimbatore: The Salem Division of Southern Railways has released its annual report for the year 2023-24, revealing the top five railway stations in terms of passenger traffic and revenue generation. Coimbatore Junction has emerged as the clear leader, significantly outperforming other stations in the division.

Coimbatore Junction recorded an impressive 1.02 crore passengers and generated a revenue of Rs 345 crore during the fiscal year. This performance underscores the station's importance as a major transportation hub in the region.

Salem Junction secured the second position with 44.9 lakh passengers and a revenue of Rs 127 crore. Erode Junction followed closely in third place, handling 43 lakh passengers and earning Rs 111 crore in revenue.

Tiruppur station claimed the fourth spot with 39 lakh passengers and Rs 96 crore in revenue. Rounding out the top five was Karur station, which served 9.69 lakh passengers and generated Rs 18 crore in revenue.

The substantial gap between Coimbatore Junction and the other stations in both passenger traffic and revenue generation highlights its crucial role in the Salem Division's operations. This data provides valuable insights into the division's performance and the relative importance of each station in the railway network.
