Hindu organizations in Udumalaipettai held a Vinayagar idol procession on September 10, featuring 250 idols and enthusiastic young women dancers, marking the culmination of Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations.
Tirupur: The town of Udumalaipettai in Tirupur district witnessed a grand Vinayagar idol procession on Sunday, marking the culmination of Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations. The event, organized by various Hindu organizations and local residents, saw the participation of enthusiastic young women who danced along the procession route.
The festivities began on September 7 with the installation of 385 Vinayagar idols across Udumalaipettai, Kudimangalam, and Madathukulam areas. Over the next two days, special pujas were performed, and annadhanam (free food distribution) was organized for the public.
On Sunday evening, a procession of 250 idols commenced from the Nethaji Sports Ground in Udumalaipettai.
The idols were then taken to the Amaravati River in Madathukulam for immersion.
The procession started at 6 PM, with BJP State Executive Committee member Jothiswari Kandasamy and Udumalaipettai Town BJP President Kannayiram inaugurating the event.
The colorful procession featured young women dancing enthusiastically to the beats of traditional instruments like chendai. Fireworks added to the festive atmosphere as the procession wound its way through Kalpana Salai, Kacheri Street, Periya Kadai Street, and Palani Road before heading towards the Amaravati River.
Deputy Superintendent of Police V. Arumugam led the police team that provided security for the event. Traffic diversions were implemented in Udumalaipettai to facilitate the smooth progress of the procession.
The Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations in Udumalaipettai showcased the cultural vibrancy and religious fervor of the local community, with the procession serving as a grand finale to the multi-day festival.
