Powerful bombs recovered from liquor laden lorry on TASMAC godown premises

TIRUVARUR: Police reportedly recovered two powerful bombs from a liquor laden lorry stationed on the premises of TASMAC liquor godown here today.

The liquor laden lorry bearing the registration number TN 50 K 7264 arrived at the TASMAC godown in Tiruvarur from Karaikkal on April 27. Soon after reaching the TASMAC godown in Vilamal near Tiruvarur, the two drivers namely Mohan and Raj, both hailing from Karaikkal, left out after instructing the cleaner Ramesh to informed when their turn came to offload the consignment.



Meanwhile, on a tip off, a police team led by Inspector Jagannathan, attached to Ennore police station came down to Tiruvarur and conducted a search this morning. The police allegedly recovered a powerful bomb concealed in a hot- box beside the driver’s seat, besides a country bomb and some explosive materials and an aruval from the lorry, unconfirmed sources claimed.

A Tata safari car with AIADMK flag mounted on its bonnet parked on the premises of TASMAC godown created a flutter. On being informed, a team of local police led by DSP Sugumaran rushed there and conducted a search in the lorry.

The personnel of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad and sniffer dog were summoned and pressed into service. However, no bomb was recovered, sources said.

The car however left from there before the local police arrived. Therefore, all the police stations across the district were alerted. Meanwhile, Kudavasal police stopped the car on the Kumbakonam-Tiruvarur road and conducted enquiry.

Upon enquiry, it was discovered that Inspector Jagannathan was travelling in the car. Following which, police let it off.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed sources claimed that police have arrested two persons in Chennai in connection with the explosives found in the liquor laden lorry.

Local police, however, declined to confirm either the recovery of bombs from the liquor laden lorry  or the  arrest of two persons in Chennai, stating that investigations are still on.
