Dr. Mahadevan aka 'Appa' - The God for Poor and HIV Victims.

In a world where everyday news is more about scams and how doctors run their business for mere profits, there are still a few doctors who live to serve mankind, one of them is Dr Mahadevan from Coimbatore.

A former Professor at the CMCH Hospital for Sexually transmitted Diseases today runs a private clinic wherein he treats the HIV Patients for free of cost.

Till date, he has treated more than 6000 HIV Patients, 350 trans-Genders and innumerable taboos that made people believe that HIV Positive was an untouchable disease.

His pursuit to become a doctor was to serve humanity and this pursuit become stronger when he witnessed how people viewed and treated a HIV Positive patient.

Back in 1995, when a movie director (name preferred not be disclosed) committed suicide because he was a HIV positive patient, Dr Mahadevan was badly affected by this news, and it was then he realized that even the educated lacked awareness about this disease and felt it was an end of the road.

That moment was indeed the turning point in Dr. Mahadevan's career as he decided to annihilate the misconceptions about HIV and serve the poor and needy who were unable to derive any help.

He initially started by running an evening clinic for the HIV patients and trans-genders who were refused by the society, at free of cost. His clinic till date has a small box in the waiting room wherein the patient can leave any amount of fee that they can afford for consultation. And, however, this money is given back to the people who come from far lands to be treated and have no money to even afford a daily meal.

And that is not all, Dr mahadevan has donated half his salary that he has earned as a professor at CMCH for  building a shelter home for the HIV Patients who have been abandoned by their families and society.

Till date, he has provided shelter to more than 814 kids, helped more than 100 college students to get admission in colleges they deserved, and many other patients in getting a job and a lesson from the world to learn from.

In one of the incidents shared by Mr Jaikumar, an acquaintance to the Dr, states about a transgender who had expired at 3 am in the night. Dr Mahadevan was updated about it and he within an hour released a death certificate for the transgender and gave an amount to carry the last rituals for the transgender.

That was just one of the many humble acts performed by the Doctor.

“I remember very strongly in the year 1995 when the news of HIV positive started culminating in India and not many were aware about it and feared it like a taboo, Dr Mahadevan relentlessly treated the patients when the world considered them as untouchables”said  Ms Meenasakshi, president of HIV Ulor Nagasangam.

No wonder not just the Coimbatorians, but the whole of Tamil Nadu knows him as APPA, he is like a god to many and surely a blessing in disguise to the abandoned HIV Patients.

He with his works has explained that HIV can be treated like any other disease if treated with love , affection and utmost care.

We at Simplicity salute his deed and wish him luck and applauses for continuing his effortless work for mankind.
