Water Users' Association in Vellakovil Seeks Information on CWC Guidelines for PAP Rehabilitation

A water users' association in Vellakovil, Tirupur district, has requested information from the Water Resources Department about CWC guidelines for rehabilitation works in the Parambikulam Aliyar Project irrigation scheme.


A water users' association in Vellakovil, Tirupur district, has approached the Water Resources Department (WRD) seeking information on Central Water Commission (CWC) guidelines for undertaking rehabilitation works in irrigation schemes, specifically for the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP).

The PAP Vellakovil Branch Canal - Veeranampalayam Village Water Users' Association (WUA) has addressed a representation to the Superintending Engineer (Coordination) of the WRD. They have requested details about the rehabilitation plan for the PAP, which is a crucial irrigation project in the Western Zone of Tamil Nadu.

The WUA expressed concern over information obtained from subordinate-level officials regarding the department's alleged plan to carry out rehabilitation works using plain cement concrete. The association is particularly interested in knowing whether the CWC guidelines mandate the use of reinforced cement concrete for such works.

Furthermore, the WUA emphasized the importance of keeping farmers informed about the current status of the Detailed Project Report for the PAP rehabilitation work. They believe that transparency in the process is essential for the stakeholders involved in the irrigation project.

This move by the water users' association highlights the growing awareness and involvement of local farming communities in the management and maintenance of irrigation infrastructure. It also underscores the need for clear communication between government departments and water users to ensure the effective implementation of rehabilitation projects.
