Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan Welcomes Anti-Drug Efforts, Discusses Textile Industry at Coimbatore Airport

Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed reporters at Coimbatore Airport, discussing India-Bangladesh relations, anti-drug efforts, and the textile industry's challenges in Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan held a press conference at the Coimbatore Airport, addressing various issues including India-Bangladesh relations, anti-drug efforts, and the textile industry in Tamil Nadu.

Radhakrishnan emphasized the importance of India-Bangladesh relations for world peace. He noted that whenever religious forces gain strength in Bangladesh, it challenges the close ties between the two nations. The Governor expressed hope that the relationship would continue to strengthen.

Regarding the textile industry, Radhakrishnan criticized the Tamil Nadu government's decision to increase electricity tariffs, stating it would not help the industry succeed. He urged the state government to provide more support to the textile sector to ensure its survival and competitiveness. The Governor highlighted the growth of the textile industry worldwide, mentioning its significant presence in countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, and even Myanmar.

Responding to a question about the Chief Minister's anti-drug efforts, Radhakrishnan welcomed the initiative to eradicate drug abuse. He stated, "The fight against drugs is certainly something to be welcomed. If it's said that more cannabis is being seized, it means there's increased cannabis movement. We need to look at all measures to control it. I welcome all efforts by the Chief Minister to curb cannabis and other narcotic substances, and everyone should welcome it."

When asked about the Pon Manickavel case, the Governor said he was unaware of the circumstances surrounding the idol case and its current status. He added that they would wait and see how it progresses.
