Monitoring Committee Meeting Held Under Pollachi Sub-Collector's Leadership

A monitoring committee meeting was held in Pollachi to discuss water distribution from Thirumoorthy Dam and measures to prevent water theft in Coimbatore district.


Coimbatore: A crucial monitoring committee meeting was held today (09.08.2024) at the Pollachi Sub-Collector's office under the leadership of Pollachi Sub-Collector A. Catherine Saranya, IAS. The meeting focused on regulating water distribution to tail-end areas and preventing water theft as Coimbatore district prepares to receive water from Thirumoorthy Dam in four rounds for the second zone irrigation areas.

The meeting was attended by Revenue Divisional Officers, Public Works Department officials, Electricity Board officials, and Police officers. Sub-Collector Saranya instructed the Water Resources Department to ensure proper water distribution to Pollachi, Kinathukadavu, Sulur taluks, and tail-end areas including Vellakovil, Kundadam, and Udumalpet.

Emphasizing the importance of preventing water theft, the Sub-Collector directed the Electricity Board to disconnect power supply in areas where water theft is reported. She also instructed the formation of joint teams comprising Police, Revenue, Water Resources, and Electricity Department officials to conduct continuous monitoring during water release periods. The Police were advised to register cases against individuals involved in water theft.

The meeting highlighted the collaborative effort required from various government departments to ensure equitable water distribution and prevent misuse of this vital resource. This proactive approach aims to address potential challenges in water management as the district prepares for the upcoming water release from Thirumoorthy Dam.
