'No Accident Weekend' is the new goal of the Coimbatore City Police, devised to reduce the rate of accidents and instil the necessity of safe driving among the citizens.
Despite issuing warnings, levying fines, people continue to display lethargic attitude when it comes to complying of traffic rules.Non-compliance not only claim the lives of unruly drivers but also could claim the lives of innocent people on the road.
In a bid to make the city an accident free place, the City Police (law and order) and Traffic Department have been conducting special drives every weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). This special drive targets at creating awareness among the drivers on safe driving and also initiate legal action against unruly drivers.
Around, 285, drink and drive cases and 2456 cases for not wearing helmet has been filed so far. And, Rs. 2,45,600 has been collected as fine. The fine amount amout has been submitted to the treasury department at the Collectorate, said a press release from the Office of Commissioner of Police.
