Members of Dr. Ambedkar Footwear Manufacturers Welfare Association in Coimbatore have submitted a petition to the District Collector requesting permanent shops for their 50-year-old trade. They urge the Corporation to take action.
Coimbatore: Members of the Dr. Ambedkar Footwear Manufacturers Welfare Association in Coimbatore have submitted a petition to the District Collector. In their petition, they have requested the Corporation administration to provide them with permanent shops.
The association members stated in their petition: "For the past 50 years, we have been manufacturing and repairing footwear using iron boxes provided by the Khadi Village Industries Board. Initially, we conducted our business near the Coimbatore Government Hospital. Later, during the construction of the railway bridge, our shops were removed, and we shifted our business to Bharathiyar Road in Papanaickenpalayam."

"Our shops were again removed when the Classical Tamil Conference was held. Currently, we are operating our shops on Jail Road, Nanjappa Road in Coimbatore. Now, with the ongoing work for the Classical Tamil Park in that area, we fear that our shops might be affected, impacting our livelihood," they explained.
In light of this situation, the footwear manufacturers have requested in their petition that the Corporation administration provide them with permanent shops to ensure a stable livelihood for their families.
