In the interest to mentor budding Journalists in the city to practice responsible journalism, the Coimbatore Press Club has been organizing a mentorship programme every 2nd and 4th Sunday at the club.

Award Winning Journalist, Selvakumar from Dinamalar addressed the Journos during the first meet that was held on 13th February, 2017. Following him, several seasoned senior Journalists from the industry shared their not that easy Journey and also instilled the thought of accountable Journalism to the young minds.
Today, the mentor for the day was Martin Raja, Senior Journalist from SUN Television Network who briefed on the do's and don't in Visual media. Addressing the spirited young Journos, Martin Raja stressed on honest-to-goodness journalism.
'Simply put, being virtuous in reporting is vital, as it is important that the news is not fabricated and above all justice can only be achieved where truth is told'. said Martin Raja.

'Journalism to keep the audience thrilled and to provoke their curiosity, is unjust. Before presenting any news to the people, the Journalist should triple-check the accuracy of the data, as unfounded news could lead to chaos. For example, let's take the Kerala - Tamil Nadu water sharing issues. Whenever there is a water crisis in Tamil Nadu, incorrect information is shared among the public. But whereas the water sharing agreement between the two states is not brought to light. Hence, it important to connect the dots before being judgmental on any issue. Remember, what you report can bring a positive or a negative change in our society'
He finally ended his talk by advising the Journalists to practice unbiased reporting and never take sides based on any religion, caste or creed'.
