A week-long NSS special camp began at TNAU on August 2, 2024, with 573 second-year volunteers participating. The camp focuses on agriculture, livestock, horticulture, and community development in six villages near Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The National Service Scheme (NSS) special camp at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) was inaugurated on August 2, 2024, at Thangarai, Poluvampatti. The camp, scheduled from August 2 to August 8, 2024, will see the participation of 573 second-year volunteers.
Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, guided the inauguration of the special camp in Thangarai. Dr. N. Maragatham, Dean of Student Welfare, delivered the presidential address, while Dr. J. Venkata Prabhu, former Director of Planning and Monitoring, offered felicitations.

The event was graced by local dignitaries, including Mrs. Mahalakshmi, President of Thangarai Panchayat; Mr. Palaniappan, Executive Officer of Thangarai; Mr. Muthuraja, President of Mathampatti Panchayat; and Mr. C. Krishnasamy, Vice President of Mathampatti Panchayat Council.
The special camp will be conducted in six villages: Thangarai, Chellappan Goundan Pudur, Chennanur, Mathipalayam, Karadimadai, and Kuppanur. The program will feature demonstrations in agriculture, animal husbandry, horticulture, and other fields. Additionally, the camp will focus on cleanliness drives, health and hygiene camps, environmental protection, and educational programs.

The initiative aims to provide students with hands-on experience in rural development and community service while benefiting the local villages.
