DMK Celebrates Supreme Court's Verdict on 3 Percent Reservation for Arunthathiyars in Udumalpet

DMK members in Udumalpet, Tiruppur district, celebrated the Supreme Court's verdict upholding the 3 Percent internal reservation for Arunthathiyars implemented during Kalaignar's regime in 2009.


Coimbatore: The Udumalpet town unit of DMK celebrated the Supreme Court's verdict upholding the 3% internal reservation for Arunthathiyars, implemented during former Chief Minister Kalaignar's regime in 2009. The celebration took place on August 1, 2024, in various areas of Udumalpet including USS Colony, Nedunchezhiyan Colony, Palani Road, and Gandhi Sandhu.

C. Velusamy, the town secretary of DMK in Udumalpet, led the celebration by garlanding the portrait of Kalaignar and paying floral tributes. The party members then distributed sweets to the public, expressing their gratitude for the court's decision.



The event saw participation from several prominent figures including Thippampatti Aruchamy, the state joint secretary of the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department. DMK ward members, party executives, and numerous local residents also joined the celebration.

The Supreme Court's verdict, which came on August 1, 2024, affirmed the validity of the 3% internal reservation for the Arunthathiyar community within the Scheduled Caste quota. This reservation policy was introduced in 2009 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi.

The DMK's celebration in Udumalpet reflects the party's satisfaction with the court's decision, viewing it as a validation of their long-standing commitment to social justice and equitable representation for marginalized communities.
