A meeting was chaired at the Collectorate by Minister SP Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development to apprise on the rising water scarcity issue in the city. District Collector, TN Hariharan and top officials of all departments were present during the meet. MLAs Arukutty, Chinnaraj, PRG Arunkumar from OPS side also took part in the meeting.
Speaking at the meet, Minister SP Velumani said 'Around, 1118.77 crores has been allotted for water management and development in the State of Tamil Nadu. And, in Coimbatore plans to dig new bore wells at possible sites are discussed with the officials. The water crisis will be reduced once these bore wells become functional. Despite knowing that a drought of this veracity dates back to 142 years, people staging protests alleging irregular water supply is not right. As most of the times, such protests are provoked by the opposition parties.
Minister SP Velumani also thanked CM, Edapadi Palanisamy for allotting Rs. 250 crores for the long-pending Avinashi - Athikadavu Project.
