Podanur Residents Demand Roundabouts for Road Safety, Address Water Supply Issues

Residents of Podanur in Coimbatore voice concerns over road safety on Podanur Main Road, demanding roundabouts at key junctions. They also highlight water supply and quality issues affecting the area.

Coimbatore: Residents of Podanur (Ward 85) in Coimbatore are raising concerns over road safety on the Podanur Main Road, emphasizing the urgent need for roundabouts at several key junctions along the major thoroughfare. The road has become a focal point of community concern due to frequent accidents and congestion at its intersections.

Residents argue that installing roundabouts at critical junctions would significantly improve traffic flow and enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians. A resident stated, "Many junctions on the Podanur Main Road lack clear traffic management solutions, leading to frequent near-miss incidents and collisions. During peak office hours, there is bumper-to-bumper traffic, especially at the junction before Church Road, on the way to Podanur railway station."

In response to the escalating traffic issues, residents have submitted petitions and organized public meetings to seek the installation of roundabouts. Another resident emphasized, "Improving traffic management is not just about convenience; it's about ensuring the safety of everyone who uses this road. Roundabouts can streamline traffic flow and prevent accidents, which is why we are pushing for their installation."

In addition to road safety concerns, Podanur residents are also grappling with water supply issues. They have reported inconsistent water supply, with frequent shortages affecting households. Concerns about water quality have also been raised, with some residents reporting contamination issues.

Addressing these concerns, a senior Corporation official stated that the frequency of drinking and salt water supply has been increased to once every three to five days, compared to the previous interval of once every 10 days. The official added, "We will investigate which areas face water contamination issues and take steps to rectify them."

As the residents of Podanur continue to advocate for improved road safety and reliable water supply, they hope that their concerns will be addressed promptly to enhance the quality of life in their community.
