300 Participants Mesmerize with Valli Kummi Performance in Kinathukadavu near Pollachi

A traditional Valli Kummi performance, depicting Valli's life story through dance and song, was held at Kinathukadavu near Pollachi. The event drew a large crowd of spectators from surrounding villages.


Coimbatore: In a spectacular display of Tamil folk art, over 300 participants came together to perform the traditional Valli Kummi dance at the Kariyakaliamman Temple premises in Kinathukadavu, near Pollachi, last night. The event showcased the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu, drawing spectators from surrounding villages.

Valli Kummi, a traditional folk dance-drama, narrates the life story of Valli, from her birth to her marriage with Lord Murugan. The performance combines rhythmic dance movements with narrative songs, bringing mythological tales to life.



During the event, a narrator recited the mythological story of Valli in song form, while performers of all ages, from children to adults, both men and women, danced in unison. The dancers, dressed in identical costumes, moved gracefully to the beats, captivating the audience with their synchronized movements.

The performance not only entertained but also served as a means to preserve and promote Tamil folk art. Many residents from Kinathukadavu and nearby areas gathered to witness this cultural spectacle, appreciating the efforts to keep traditional art forms alive.

This Valli Kummi performance stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of Tamil folk arts and their ability to bring communities together in celebration of shared cultural heritage.
