Due to the prevailing drought conditions, wild animals that live along the western ghats have been migrating to Kerala and Karnataka forests in search of fodder and water. The Bhavani Sagar dam near Sathyamangalam is one of the prime source of water for wild animals like deer, elephants, bisons, tiger, leopards and other animals.

Today morning, an adult elephant got struck in the slush next to a small water pond. Despite, trying to relieve itself from the slush the elephant was unable to get on it's foot.

The trumpeting cry of the elephant shook the entire forest. The locals alerted the Forest Department n the incident, who rushed to the spot. After a tough struggle, the officials with the help of the locals rescued the elephant from the deep slush. Through water pipes, the elephant was given water as it was very exhausted. At last, the elephant stood up and walked towards the forest and joined it's herd.

The timely intervention by the forest officials saved the life of the elephant, hence the locals lauded the officials for their efforts.
