To commemorate the inaugural train services in India 163 years back between Thane and Boribunder, in 1853, Railway Week is being celebrated all over Indian Railways during which the staff and officers who have put in exemplary services are being recognized with cash awards and certificates. These functions are being held in 3 tiers, viz. Railway Minister Award at Railway Board level, GM Award at Individual Zonal level (ex. Southern Railway, etc) and DRM Award at Division Level.
As part of Railway Week celebrations, one such programme is scheduled to be hosted tomorrow (21 April), in the lawns in front of Salem DRM Office. Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, will participate as Chief Guest, and will honour 381 staff and 20 officers with merit certificates and cash awards. He will also hand over 14 shields for the Best Maintained Station, Best Maintained Section, Best Kept Office in this function.
