Public Surrounds Government Officials During Infrastructure Inspection in Coimbatore

Residents of Ward 84 in Coimbatore surrounded government officials during an infrastructure inspection, leading to heated arguments. The incident occurred as officials assessed basic amenities in various neighborhoods.

Coimbatore: Tension gripped Ward 84 of Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation on Tuesday when residents surrounded government officials who had come to inspect basic infrastructure facilities in the area. The confrontation led to heated arguments between the officials and the public.

The inspection covered several neighborhoods in Ward 84, including GM Nagar, Kottai Puthur Zamindar Nagar, Vairam Nagar, Veerapandi Nagar, Kallukuzhi, Sun Garden, NS Garden, Rosa Garden, Gandhi Nagar, Jannatul Firdaus Garden, and KS Park. Residents of these areas had previously announced plans for a protest, demanding the provision of basic amenities such as proper roads, stormwater drains, and underground sewage systems.

As government officials and police personnel arrived at the scene for inspection, residents quickly surrounded them. The locals took the officials around, pointing out damaged roads and drainage systems, leading to intense discussions about the lack of infrastructure.

The situation escalated when the group moved to the 88th ward, gathering in front of an SDPI councillor's house. A heated argument broke out between the councillor's supporters and the general public, requiring police intervention to calm the situation.

Officials assured the residents that arrangements would be made to provide the necessary basic facilities. Following this assurance, the crowd dispersed peacefully. The incident highlights the growing frustration among residents over inadequate infrastructure and the urgent need for civic improvements in the area.
