The open sewage running through the Rajalakshmi mills Road, near Perks School in Trichy road, Coimbatore, poses a threat to the residents of the locality. Wastes are being dumped into this sewage obstructing the sewage water flow. This open sewage collects most of the sewage from the South Zone and lets it into the Kulatheri Pond. Now, this blockage has led to stagnation of sewage water.

Speaking on this, a resident of this locale shared that 'There is a danger of diseases spreading as the sewage is a breeding place for mosquitoes. There is also a school close to the sewage; hence we residents appeal to the officials to clear the garbage on priority. Despite taking measures to instruct the public to refrain from dumping wastes into the sewage, we are unable to control the dumping. We residents also placed a board indicating 'no dumping' however all our efforts went in vain. People from other locale are dumping wastes of all kinds mostly plastic into this sewage. Animal wastes and wastes from slaughter houses are also dumped into this sewage canal. Thus, this sewage canal has become the breeding ground for mosquitoes, disease-spreading germs and stray dogs. During night hours stray dogs feed on these trash and cause serious menace to the passersby. We tried to contact the sanitary inspector of our ward, however we were unable to contact him', said the residents.
The distressed residents have urged the concerned officials to take immediate action and clear the blockade caused at the sewage.
