Corporation Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan has ordered the officials to conduct an assessment of property at all five wards to ensure if the property tax calculated is in accordance with the present state of the building.
The Property tax that is calculated on the base unit area varies from one property to another. Factors like size, location, free space, constructed area, the age of the property are some of the factors that determine the property tax amount. Hence, it is important that these factors are re-evaluated periodically to determine if the right amount of property tax.
In this regard, the officials inspected one Ward from all five zones in the city. In the east zone, Ward No: 69, west zone, Ward No: 24, south zone, Ward No: 79, north zone, Ward No: 38 and in the central zone, Ward No: 54 were assessed. In total, 18769 buildings were assessed during this inspection.
Post assessment the officials will submit a comprehensive report to the Corporation Commission for further action.
