CCTN's Craft Bazaar 2024: A Showcase of Indian Artistry in Coimbatore

The Crafts Council of Tamil Nadu (CCTN) is organizing its annual Craft Bazaar from July 18-23, 2024, at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam, Peelamedu. The event features 98 stalls showcasing diverse Indian handicrafts and textiles.


Coimbatore: The Crafts Council of Tamil Nadu (CCTN) is set to host its annual "Craft Bazaar" in Coimbatore from July 18 to 23, 2024. The event, which will be held at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam in Peelamedu, aims to provide a platform for artisans from across India to exhibit and sell their crafts and textiles.

Inaugurated in Coimbatore in 1988, CCTN's primary objective is to encourage Indian craftsmen and weavers, ensuring their relevance in changing times and sustaining their art for future generations. The organization works towards providing skill development, product design, and packaging guidance to artisans.



This year's Craft Bazaar will feature 98 stalls representing artisans from Assam to the southern tip of India. The exhibition includes 42 textile stalls, 13 painting stalls, and 43 art and craft stalls.



Visitors can explore a wide range of traditional Indian art forms, including Pichwai, Kawad, Madhubani, Phad, Pattachitra, Warli, Gond, Miniature paintings, Bangla Pattachitra, and Guruvayur murals.



The craft section will showcase various items such as brass, glass, and wooden artifacts, bead, lac, and glass bangles, Dokra craft, Juties, reed and waste cloth mats, dry flowers, handmade footwear from Pondicherry, metal and terracotta items, Kalchatti, blue pottery, leather sandals, mosaic glass, hammocks, bamboo craft, Kolhapuri sandals, and wood carvings.



Other unique products on display include shell, mother of pearl, and horn crafts, leather puppets, grass baskets, copper bells, quilted bags, stone pottery, cane and bamboo products, Sholapith, Palmyra baskets, embroidered bags, hand-printed bed sheets, quilts, Assam cane and bamboo products, and Kilim baskets, bags, and accessories.



The textile section will feature a rich variety of Indian fabrics and weaves, including Bagh, Dabu, Sanganeri prints, Toda, Kashmiri, Kalamkari, Chanderi, Phulkari, Shibori, Narayanpet, Venkatgiri, Kotpad, Gadwal, Ikkat, Odisha and Bengal cotton, Patolas, Chikankari, tie and dye, Kutch shawls, Bhujodi Kala cottons, crochet, tussars from Bodh Gaya, Kantha work, Bikaner hand embroidery, Ajrakh, Kota sarees, Molkalmuru Sarees, Mubarakpur weaves, and Urmul Sarees.

CCTN invites the people of Coimbatore to extend their wholehearted support by visiting the Craft Bazaar. The event promises a unique shopping experience that not only allows visitors to purchase beautiful artisanal products but also exposes them to the rich arts and crafts of India.

The Craft Bazaar will be open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily, and admission is free for all visitors.
