Six persons including a woman get life term for murdering a woman

THANJAVUR: The principal and district sessions court here convicted and awarded life imprisonment to 6 persons including a woman in connection with the murder of a woman in 2015.

According to prosecution, a quarrel broke out between Pandurangan (50), farmer, of Kaduveli village and his neighbour Baskaran (36) of the same village on February 20, 2015 in connection with erecting a fence in between the two lands owned by them after uprooting the fully grown Portia tree. Baskaran and Pandurangan are also close relatives.

Then, Baskaran and his gang attacked Pandurangan and his family with aruval. Following which, Pandurangan’s wife Usha Rani (45) died on the spot while Pandurangan and his son Mahendran were injured.

Based on a complaint, Maruvur police registered a case and arrested six persons namely Baskaran (36), Ilangovan (50), Ramesh (30), Ramachandran ((27), Rajiv Gandhi (24) and Kamala (45) in this connection.

Trial of the case was conducted at the principal and district sessions court in Thanjavur.

Judge S Karthikeyan (in-charge) who heard the case found all the six accused guilty of the charges. Judge Karthikeyan, pronouncing his verdict in the case today, sentenced all the six accused to life imprisonment.
