The Blood Foundation Charitable Trust continues to encourage the public to donate blood and save lives.

“I was first introduced to blood donation through one of my friends in college. She participated in a blood donation camp. I was so happy that she remained healthy after she donated blood and she remained
healthy. This prompted me to also donate blood. So I gave it a try and I was healthy and happy so I have decided to donate blood once in a while.” Alisha R, a student of arts and science says.

In order to bridge the gap between the blood that is required and the donors, The Blood Foundation Charitable Trust was formed in 2000. The then district collector G. Santhanam inaugurated this foundation in 2000. However, the various activities of this foundation were stated in 1999.

“When we started this centre we had just 100 donors. However, thanks to awareness about blood donation, we now have more than 10,000 donors who are on our list of donors. More than 15,000 patients and victims of accidents have benefitted through our foundation.” a source from this foundation says.

The founder and managing trustee of The Blood Foundation Charitable Trust is Coimbatore based M. Allaudeen and sources close to him share that he has dedicated his life towards the noble cause of donating blood and saving the lives of people. The founder strongly believes that ‘Giving is Living’.

If numbers are to be beloved, India requires a total capacity of 40 million units of blood. However, we are able to get only 60 lakh units of blood. This supply can be successfully matched with the demand only
if people come ahead and donate blood.

Ever since it was established, The Blood Foundation Charitable Trust aims to ensure that not a single person’s life is lost due to the lack of blood. In order to encourage people from different walks of life to
come ahead and donate blood, this foundation continues to organize blood donation awareness camps on a regular basis.

As a part of their procedure, before any blood donation exercise a few medical tests are performed on the donor. Tests like Hb test (in the copper sulphate solution method), measurement of blood pressure, checking the body temperature and weight and checking heart beat, condition of liver, lung and spleen are carried out on the donor. This is to ensure that the donor is medically fit to donate blood. For each bag of blood that is donated, laboratory tests like jaundice(Band C), malaria, HIV(AIDS)test, veneral disease(STD), blood group, before issuing blood, and cross matching is done.

The Blood Foundation Charitable Trust is located in R S Puram and can be reached at 98430-45437.
