Precautionary Measures for Southwest Monsoon Discussed by Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner

In a recent consultation held at R.S. Puram Kalaiyarangam, Coimbatore Municipal Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran emphasized swift monsoon preparations starting from June 22, 2024.


Coimbatore: The Municipal Commissioner of Coimbatore, M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, chaired a critical meeting at R.S. Puram Kalaiyarangam to discuss necessary precautionary measures in anticipation of the southwest monsoon, set to intensify over the next three days starting June 22, 2024. Amid forecasts of heavy rainfall predicted by the Meteorological Center, Prabhakaran outlined comprehensive monsoon readiness steps across various municipal zones.




Officials are directed to coordinate efforts across departments, ensuring the functionality of water evacuation motors and tree-cutting equipment while ramping up cleanliness drives to mitigate health risks in rainfall-affected areas. Health department staff were advised to be ready to deploy medical camps wherever necessary. Also, immediate evacuation and relief measures for residents in low-lying areas were emphasized, along with provision of essential supplies.


Furthermore, Prabhakaran conducted a review on demolishing dangerously dilapidated and structurally unsound buildings within municipal limits, instructing officials to strictly adhere to government demolition regulations to ensure safety.
