Coimbatore Police Seizes 270 kg of Tobacco Products; Five Arrested

Coimbatore Police, in an effort to create a drug-free zone, raided and seized 270 kg of banned tobacco products in the Negamam Police Station area on May 25, 2024, arresting five individuals.


Coimbatore: As part of efforts to promote a drug-free environment in Coimbatore, local police conducted a significant operation on May 25, 2024. Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a vehicle near Pollackoundanpalayam, finding it was transporting banned tobacco products intended for sale within the jurisdiction of Negamam Police Station.

The operation resulted in the detainment of five individuals: Alwin (30) from Pollachi, Sarfudeen (38) from Kerala, Ismail (29), Immanuel (38) from Pollachi, and Balasubramani (47). They were found in the possession of tobacco products weighing a total of 270 kilograms, worth approximately Rs. 3,00,000, and various vehicles including two-wheelers and one four-wheeler, collectively valued at Rs. 1,99,000.

These actions reflect the ongoing efforts by the police to clamp down on the illegal drug trade in the region, emphasizing public health and safety.
