Young Man Killed by Private Tour Bus in Mettupalayam Identified

On May 13, early morning, a young man was found unconscious with blood injuries near Mettupalayam bus station entrance, later identified as Rajapandiyan from Thiruvarur after a private tour bus ran over him.

Coimbatore: A tragic incident unfolded at the Mettupalayam bus station on May 13, when a young man was discovered lying unconscious with severe blood injuries near the entrance. The local auto-rickshaw driver, Mohammad Asif, witnessed the scene and promptly alerted the Mettupalayam police.

Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the scene and transported the injured man to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for medical attention. However, the doctors there declared him dead on arrival. Initially, the identity of the young man and the details of the incident were unclear. Investigations revealed that a vehicle had hit him and fled the scene without stopping.

Subsequent investigations by the police, aided by CCTV footage from the bus station area, confirmed that the victim was run over by a private tour bus operated by Sam Travels, regularly commuting between Bangalore and Ooty. The distressing footage showed the bus driving over the man, identified through further investigation as Rajapandiyan from Thiruvarur, who tragically lost his life in this incident.

Further analysis of the CCTV footage helped the police in tracking down the bus involved, which was then found abandoned in Ooty. The driver, Sivaraj, and the cleaner of the bus were seen placing the victim on the side of the road before fleeing towards Ooty, after which they disappeared.

The bus has been seized and brought back to Mettupalayam police station, and authorities are actively searching for the driver and the cleaner involved in this hit-and-run case. The release of the CCTV video on May 17 has caused a stir in the community, highlighting the urgent need for stricter safety measures and accountability in public and private transport systems.
