Man Arrested for Assaulting Woman Over Unpaid Debt in Coimbatore

In Ukkadam's GM Nagar, Coimbatore, Sabana, 32, was assaulted by Shanmuga Sundaram, 39, for demanding repayment of a Rs. 4 lakh loan. The incident occurred near Mariamman Temple on May 17.

Coimbatore: A distressing altercation over a financial dispute led to the arrest of a man for assaulting a woman in Coimbatore's Ukkadam area. The suspect, identified as Shanmuga Sundaram, 39, reportedly borrowed Rs. 4 lakh from Sabana, 32, a resident of GM Nagar. Despite repeated requests, Sundaram failed to repay the loan, leading to frequent disputes between the two.

On the evening of May 17, near the Prakasam bus stop close to Mariamman Temple, when Sabana confronted Sundaram to reclaim the loan amount, an argument erupted. Enraged, Sundaram allegedly pushed her to the ground, used abusive language, and threatened her life.

Following the assault, Sabana filed a complaint at the Kadai Veethi Police Station. Acting promptly, the police registered a case under sections of the women harassment prevention act and criminal intimidation, leading to Sundaram's immediate arrest. He has since been detained, pending further investigation.
