Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati Inspects Ukkadam Periyakulam Under Urban Development Plan

On May 14, 2024, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati and City Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran conducted an inspection of the ongoing redevelopment and operational works at Ukkadam Periyakulam under the Urban Development Plan.

Coimbatore: In a notable development within urban planning, Coimbatore District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati, along with City Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran, visited the Ukkadam Periyakulam site to examine the progress of its redevelopment under the prestigious Urban Development Plan. This project, initiated by the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation, aims to transform the pond areas into vibrant public spaces with enhanced amenities.

The Ukkadam Periyakulam project includes the enhancement of seven ponds—Krishnampathi Kulam, Selvampathi Kulam, Kumaraswamy Kulam, Selvachinthamani Kulam, Periyakulam, Valankulam, and Kurichikulam. These are being upgraded to include walking paths, boat stations, eateries, children's play areas, and centers for cultural activities. Special focus has been given to incorporate elements that reflect Tamil culture such as statues of Thiruvalluvar, events showcasing Jallikattu and Bharatanatyam, and art sculptures.

To ensure these developments are well maintained, a comprehensive management strategy involving civil, electrical, mechanical maintenance, garbage management, water sports, and safety measures has been implemented. Innovative features like small electric patrol vehicles, mobile units, and advanced machinery for ground and pathway cleaning are part of the operational framework.

Further, with an employment opportunity for over 300 personnel in various capacities, the project not only revitalizes the urban space but also boosts local employment. The officials collected feedback from project engineers and other relevant officials to ensure all aspects of the project meet the intended standards and public expectation.
