Two Coimbatore Youths Killed in Road Accident While En Route to Valparai

Two youths lost their lives after the motorcycle they were travelling on allegedly went out of control due to rash and negligent riding, crashed into the central median and veered into the path of an oncoming private bus on the Coimbatore–Pollachi Road.

Coimbatore: Two 21-year-old youths from Coimbatore were killed in a tragic road accident on the Coimbatore–Pollachi Main Road near the Cheran Nagar Arch, on Sunday morning.

According to police, a group of friends from Coimbatore had planned a trip to Valparai and set out on two motorcycles at around 9.20 a.m. on June 14. One of the motorcycles, ridden by Siva Shankar (21) of Kuniyamuthur with Abip John (21) of Ukkadam travelling as the pillion rider, met with an accident while negotiating a curve near Cheran Nagar Arch.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the rider allegedly drove the motorcycle at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the central median. The impact caused the motorcycle to cross over to the opposite carriageway, where it collided with a private bus proceeding from the opposite direction.

Siva Shankar sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot despite wearing a helmet. Abip John was thrown onto the bus during the collision and suffered fatal injuries, resulting in his death at the scene.

Police said Siva Shankar was employed as a two-wheeler mechanic at Karumbukadai, while Abip John worked at a car accessories shop near Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore.

Meanwhile, Sivakumar (47), a native of Thammampatti in Salem district who was travelling in the bus and standing near the rear footboard area, sustained minor facial injuries after being thrown due to the impact of the collision. He was immediately rushed to the Pollachi Government Hospital and admitted for treatment.

Based on a complaint lodged by Mohammed Jashim Rasheed (20), a friend of the deceased, the Mahalingapuram Police registered a case in Crime No. 125/2026 under Sections 281, 125(a) and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is under way.

The bodies of the deceased were sent to the Pollachi Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police said the post-mortem procedures were under way and were expected to be completed later in the day.
