Coimbatore: In a prestigious acknowledgment of his contributions, Coimbatore-based educator Vallikummi Pathirappan was awarded the Padma Shri during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Delhi. President Draupadi Murmu presented the awards on May 9, 2024. The Padma Awards, considered one of the highest civilian honors in India, are given to individuals who have achieved distinguished feats in various fields. This year, 132 individuals were announced as recipients, with more than half receiving their honors on April 22.
The remaining awardees, including Pathirappan, were honored in yesterday's event, where alongside the President, notable figures such as Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah were in attendance.
