Coimbatore: In a tragic incident in Perur, near Coimbatore, a father was arrested for the fatal stabbing of his son. The incident occurred late evening on April 24 when the son returned home drunk and an altercation broke out. Mayan, 45, a shepherd by profession, and his wife Muthammal were at home with their son Mukesh, 21, when the dispute escalated.

According to the police statement, Mukesh, who was heavily intoxicated, attacked his father with a bucket, irritating him. The situation turned violent, leading Mayan to retaliate. In the heat of the moment, Mayan used a small knife, normally used for cutting onions, to stab Mukesh multiple times in his neck, back, and legs. Overwhelmed by pain, Mukesh fell and struggled on the ground.

His brother Muthukumar and friends rushed him to the Thondamuthur government hospital and later transferred him to the Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, Mukesh succumbed to his injuries the following day, on April 25.
