Special Puja Commenced with the Placement of Vel in Sivanmalai Andavar 'Uttharavu Petti'

In Kangeyam near Tirupur, the Sivanmalai Andavar temple has started its ritual by placing Vel in the 'Uttharavu Petti', as believed by devotees to ward off evils and ensure success.

Coimbatore: A unique and revered tradition continues at the Sivanmalai Subramaniya Swamy Temple near Kangeyam, Tirupur, with the commencement of special pujas following the placement of Vel in the Andavar 'Uttharavu Petti'.

The ritual, deeply rooted in local beliefs, suggests that worshipping Lord Murugan’s Vel can dispel adversity and draw victories.

This practice was initiated today with significant participation from the devotees and local community.

The Sivanmalai temple, renowned across the Kongu region, holds a special place not only as a spiritual center but also as a historical site attributed to sage Sivavakkiyar. Here, the unique 'Andavar Uttharavu Petti'' or the directive box of the deity is a focal point of worship and mystery. Traditionally, devout followers who receive commands in their dreams place specific items inside this box. The items remain there until a new divine instruction is revealed in another devotee's dream, further adding elements for worship.

This tradition not only maintains an air of sacredness but also attracts folklore about its impact on societal occurrences. Past items have reportedly correlated with significant developments such as increased vehicle usage following a cycle puja or a real estate boom post a soil offering. These instances fascinate and add layers of belief in the divine interventions associated with the Andavar 'Uttharavu Petti'.

This latest addition of Vel, commanded through the dreams of a devotee identified as Sabapathy, aged 48, from Dharapuram Nachimuthupuram, has sparked increased interest and discussions among worshippers. The community is eagerly watching what outcomes this new inductee might bring, in line with past experiences and spiritual sayings that promise the eradication of hurdles and prosperity for those who pay homage.

The phenomenon of divine directives through items in the 'Uttharavu Petti' continues to be a significant spiritual and cultural highlight, embedding deep faith and intrigue within the hearts of the Sivanmalai temple devotees.
