2024 Lok Sabha Election: Former Mayor Ganapathy Rajkumar Selected as DMK Candidate for Coimbatore.

In the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as DMK directly contests in the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency, Ganapathy P. Rajkumar, who was elected as the Mayor of Coimbatore in 2014, has been announced as the candidate. Previously serving as the Coimbatore district secretary for AIADMK, he joined DMK in 2020.

Coimbatore: With DMK contesting directly in 21 out of 40 places in the upcoming parliamentary election, DMK leader and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin today released the complete list of DMK candidates at the Anna Arivalayam in Chennai.

Along with this, a 64-page election manifesto tailored to the needs and development of each district was released by the DMK leader.

Candidate for Coimbatore Parliamentary Constituency

The announcement by the party leadership to contest directly in the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency, without allocating it to an alliance party, has received widespread welcome among DMK members and the public in Coimbatore district.

Following this, DMK leader M.K. Stalin today announced the much-anticipated list of candidates. Accordingly, former Coimbatore Mayor Ganapathy P. Rajkumar has been selected as the candidate for the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency.

Having been a member of AIADMK for 25 years and serving as the leader of the north zone of the city municipal corporation from 2011 to 2014, and as the Mayor of Coimbatore from 2014 to 2016, Ganapathy Rajkumar joined DMK in 2020 at the Anna Arivalayam in Chennai, in the presence of DMK leader M.K. Stalin.

It may be recalled that Rajkumar's accusation that senior administrators in AIADMK were being sidelined caused significant controversy.

Moreover, despite expectations that Dr. Gokul from the DMK medical wing or Dr. Mahendran from the IT wing would be announced as the candidate for the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency, the unexpected announcement of former Mayor Ganapathy Rajkumar as the candidate has surprised party members and the public.
