Couple Attempts Self-Immolation at Coimbatore District Collector's Office

In a shocking incident at the Coimbatore District Collector's office, a couple attempted self-immolation, causing a stir. The couple, distressed over employment issues, sought action against the Executive Officer, Kanagaraj.

Coimbatore: A dramatic scene unfolded in front of the Coimbatore District Collector's office as Murugesan and his wife attempted self-immolation by pouring diesel over themselves. The incident occurred during the weekly grievance meeting held at the office, causing immediate alarm among the attendees and security personnel.

The quick response from the police on duty prevented a tragedy. They intervened to stop the couple, dousing them with water and subsequently detaining them for further inquiry at the local police station.

Murugesan, affected by the ordeal, shared that he was working as an accountant at the Puliyakulam Vinayagar Temple in Coimbatore. He alleged that during his tenure, Executive Officer Kanagaraj appointed another individual for his position, leading to a significant loss of livelihood for him and his family. Claiming that his job was unjustly taken from him, Murugesan demanded that immediate action be taken against Kanagaraj for the alleged injustice, leading to their extreme act of protest in front of the Collector's office.

The incident has sparked discussions on the procedures for addressing grievances within public offices and the dire measures people resort to when feeling unheard. Authorities are currently investigating the couple's claims to ensure justice and prevent such distressing incidents in the future.
