Despite all precautionary steps and warnings, it has been seen that both general public and railway passengers continue to go near railway electrical installations such as overhead power cables, electric poles, etc. resulting in fatal injuries and even death. In the year, 2017, there were 2 incidents, one at Salem Market and the other at Mettur Dam, in which 2 persons suffered electrocution.
To educate them and warn of the risks involved in getting near the railway electrical installations and the resultant electrocution, the Electrical Branch of Salem Division, is conducting an Electrical Safety Awareness Campaign from 28.03.2017 to 31.03.2017, as a part of which, a van will be travelling all over Salem Division, to interact with general public and rail passengers, distribute pamphlets, distribute Geometry boxes to school children carrying safety messages, and carry out audio visual propaganda. The Safety Propaganda Van (Safety Rath) will be flagged off from Salem Division Office premises by Sri Hari Shankar Verma, DRM, at about 10.00 hrs (approx) tomorrow (28.03.2017).
The Electrical Branch staff have planned to meet about 1,00,000 people, distribute 10,000 pamphlets, 2500 Calendars with safety messages in Tamil, English and Hindi, and distribute 1000 geometry boxes with safety messages to school Children.
