Marxist Communist Party Celebrates Supreme Court's Ban on Electoral Bonds in Coimbatore

Following the Supreme Court's historic verdict against electoral bonds, Coimbatore's Marxist Communist Party celebrated near Gandhipuram bus station, distributing sweets and setting off fireworks in approval of the decision.

Coimbatore, February 15: The Marxist Communist Party in Coimbatore celebrated a landmark Supreme Court ruling that declared electoral bonds invalid. The celebration took place near the Gandhipuram bus station, led by Coimbatore Parliament Member Natarajan. The court's verdict, hailed as historic by the party, followed a lawsuit filed by the Marxist Communist Party four years ago, challenging the legality of electoral bonds.

Electoral bonds had been criticized for allowing anonymous funding to political parties, potentially facilitating corporate bribery and financial malpractice. The Marxist Communist Party has been the sole movement to oppose the acceptance of donations through electoral bonds, demanding transparency in political funding. The Supreme Court's panel of five judges delivered a verdict that aligned with the party's long-standing concerns, mandating that all political parties must return the funds collected through electoral bonds by a specified date.

The celebration included the distribution of sweets to the public and the lighting of fireworks, symbolizing the party's approval of the Supreme Court's decision. Coimbatore's District Secretary C. Padmanabhan, CITU District Secretary Krishnamoorthy, and other party members including Kanagaraj and Ajay participated in the event, underscoring the significance of the verdict in promoting transparency and accountability in political financing.

MP Natarajan highlighted the importance of the ruling, stating that it compels all political parties, including the BJP, to return the thousands of crores received through electoral bonds. The Marxist Communist Party's celebration marks a pivotal moment in their advocacy for clean and accountable political practices, welcoming the judiciary's reinforcement of democratic values in electoral financing.
