Coimbatore's Vellingiri Hill Pilgrims Advised Reduced Plastic Usage Amid Festival Season

In anticipation of the festival season at Vellingiri Hill in Coimbatore, the court has permitted visits until May, with continued restrictions on carrying plastic bottles to promote environmental conservation.

Coimbatore: Pilgrims planning to visit the Vellingiri Andavar Temple during the festival season have been granted permission by the court to do so until May. As part of ongoing efforts to minimize environmental impact, similar to last year, regulations concerning the use of plastic bottles will be strictly enforced. Visitors are encouraged to reduce plastic usage, and a unique system has been put in place to manage plastic bottle waste effectively. Each pilgrim carrying a water bottle will be charged a fee of 20 rupees, which will be marked with a sticker. Upon returning from the hill, the pilgrims can return the bottle to reclaim their 20 rupees. This initiative, aimed at reducing plastic pollution on the sacred hill, will be in effect this year as well.
