Residents of Kurichi Uppilipalayam Petition Coimbatore District Collector for Land Titles

Over 200 families from Kurichi Uppilipalayam in Coimbatore district, residing for more than 50 years without land titles, have submitted a petition to the District Collector, Kranthi Kumar Pati, seeking official land ownership documents.

Coimbatore: In a significant move to secure their land rights, representatives of over 200 families residing in the Kurichi Uppilipalayam area of Madukkarai Taluk, Coimbatore district, have approached District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati with a plea for land titles. Despite living in the area for over 50 years, these families have not been granted official land ownership documents, which has led them to repeatedly petition the district administration without success.

During a public grievance day meeting held on February 12, the representatives highlighted their longstanding residency in Kurichi Uppilipalayam, backed by evidence such as Aadhaar cards, electricity connections, ration cards, house taxes, and gas connections, all of which attest to their decades-long settlement in the area.

However, the absence of land titles has left them in a precarious position, lacking formal recognition of their ownership rights by the government. Despite numerous appeals and direct petitions to the District Collector's office, their requests for land titles have remained unfulfilled, leaving the residents in a state of uncertainty regarding their homes and land.

The petition specifically references the issuance of land titles for Survey No. 149 in their area as a precedent, urging the District Collector to consider their case sympathetically and grant land titles to the remaining families. The plea represents a collective appeal for dignity, security, and formal acknowledgment of their rights as long-standing residents of Coimbatore district.
