Wild Elephants Damage Crops in Pooluvampatti Region

Over the past two weeks, a lone elephant wreaked havoc in the Pooluvampatti forest range area, including Nallur Vayal and Sappani Madai villages, by damaging crops and knocking down coconut trees in a local's grove.

Coimbatore: In a recent turn of events, the tranquil life of villagers in Nallur Vayal and Sappani Madai under the Pooluvampatti forest range was disturbed by the frequent intrusion of a lone elephant. This elephant, over the past two weeks, has caused significant damage to the crops, particularly targeting a coconut grove owned by a local named Manikandan and Thangamani's sugarcane field. Alerted by Thangamani, forest department officials engaged in a strenuous effort to drive the elephant back into the forest, highlighting the ongoing conflict between wildlife and human settlements.

The incident underscores the challenges of managing human-wildlife interactions, especially in regions where human habitats and wildlife territories overlap. The effort to maintain a balance and prevent such intrusions is a continuous struggle for both the villagers and the forest department.
