City Traffic Police lend their support in removing Seemai Karuvellam Trees from water bodies.

Early this morning, the Narasimpathy Lake on the Thondamuthur Road was surrounded by Police personnel (traffic) which alarmed the locals fearing something unusual. But in no time their fear transformed into happiness, when they learnt that these police personnel have volunteered to clean the Narasimpathy Lake.

In the recent times, NGOS, Environmentalists and government bodies have taken vow to restore the water bodies in the city by cleaning the trash, de-silting and removal of Seemai Karuvelam trees from the basins.

In a bid to extend their support and contribution, the City Traffic Police led by Deputy Commissioner, S. Saravanan swung into action to clean the Narasimpathy Water tank. Assistant Commissioner of Traffic, Madudapathy and Ayyasamy, Traffic Inspector (west) organised the event.

The traffic police personnel were spotted with sickles, cutting blades to remove the Seemai Karuvelam trees. Speaking to us Ayyasamy, Traffic Inspector (west) said that, 'As we all know, the Seemai Karuvelem trees are a huge threat to the environment especially to the water bodies. Hence, we decided to take this project and extends our support for terminating these trees from our City's water bunds.

We have deployed JCB's to remove large Seemai Karuvelam trees, as those are difficult to be removed manually. Close to 250 large seemai karuvellam trees will be removed through JCB's and rest 200 small trees will be removed manually. Over the years, Coimbatore City Police have been associated in many welfare and social projects and we are glad to be a part of this cleaning drive, Ayyasamy said.
