Priest in Coimbatore Duped of Rs. 12.5 Lakhs in Investment Scam

A priest, Murugesan, from the Arulmigu Sangameswarar Temple in Bellathi, near Karamadai, Coimbatore, was defrauded of Rs. 12.5 lakhs by a man named Siva from Veerapandi area.

Coimbatore: In a deceitful turn of events, Murugesan, a 40-year-old priest working at the Arulmigu Sangameswarar Temple in Bellathi, near Karamadai, has been swindled out of Rs. 12.5 lakhs. The accused, identified as Siva (aged 38) from the Veerapandi area, befriended Murugesan during his regular visits to the temple.

Siva, claiming to be in the car business, convinced Murugesan to invest in a scheme that promised high returns or a car in exchange for monthly installments. Trusting Siva, Murugesan paid several installments, totaling Rs. 12.5 lakhs. However, Siva neither returned the money nor provided any car, effectively defrauding the priest.

Upon realizing the scam, Murugesan filed a complaint with the Karamadai Police. Acting on the complaint, Inspector Rajasekaran registered a case and subsequently arrested Siva. He has been charged under two sections, including fraud.

This incident has raised concerns about the vulnerability of individuals to such fraudulent schemes and underscores the importance of thorough verification before making any investments.
