Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) have released the budget for 2017-18. Since 1996, for the very first time, the Corporation has released, it's annual budget without the presence of local body representatives. The budget was released this morning by Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer, Dr.K. Vijayakarthikeyan.

Corporation has declared Rs. 1101.70 crores as it's income and Rs. 1178.57 crores as expenses for the year 2016-17, with 76.87 crores, as deficit. In the upcoming budget for 2017-18, additional focus has been given on waste management, restoration of water bodies, multi-storey parking facilities and smart city project.
'For the year 2017-18, 1072.42 crores has been allotted towards general fund, water disbursement and for Primary education and Rs. 1059.38 crores have been estimated as expenses, hence an excess additional fund of Rs. 13.04 crores have been derived.
As instructed by the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, a uniform budgeting system has been followed at all Corporation and Municipals. Forms and formats issued by the Municipal Administration have been adhered to and financial data from all Zones and Departments has been pooled to formulate the budget', CCMC Commissioner Dr. K. Vijayakarthikeyan said.
Sensor Garbage Bins: Rs. 15 crores has been allotted towards sensor Garbage Bins. The sensors attached in these bins will alert the concerned officials when the bins are nearing their capacity, the official will receive an alert from the sensor. We could then deploy staff to the particular area to clean the garbage or replace a new bin.
Restoration of Water Bodies: Rs. 15 crores has been allotted towards restoration of all eight water bodies in the city. De-slitting, cleaning, expansion, removal of encroachments and seemai karuvelam trees will be carried out with this budget.
Rs.171.86 crores has been allotted towards combined bus stand at Vellalore. And, 428 lakhs have been allotted towards enhancement of Wards that are annexed with the Corporation through the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) Scheme.
Along with these, one crore grant from the Central and State governments will be procured towards Smart City Project. Among others, funds for establishing multi level storey parking facilities in multiple areas of the city has also been allotted.
